Laguiole Table Forks, Set of 6
You get six Laguiole table forks in every set, made by hand in France by Laguiole en Aubrac, with handles in wood, horn or stone. If you’re after Laguiole forks to go with your knives, each handle here is also made into a set of six steak knives. Some know them as dinner forks, and they’re the full-size fork for the main course.
A single-material fork set gives the table a uniform look, while in the mixed sets no two places share a wood or horn, so guests know their fork from their neighbour’s. Some woods have a satin finish, while snakewood, horn tip and stone come polished. To complete the setting, see the Laguiole Steak Knives, Set of 6 and the Laguiole Soup Spoons, Set of 6. Smaller forks for pudding come in the Laguiole Dessert Knives & Cake Forks, Set of 6.

Snakewood, grapevine or zebu horn tip
Snakewood is named for the black markings that wind like snakes across its golden-brown background. It's a dense, heavy wood, polished to bring the pattern out. Grapevine handles come from old vines pulled up in the south of France after decades of bearing grapes. The wood is knotty, and no two handles look the same. For zebu horn tip, only the tip of the horn is used, where it's at its densest, and the colour shifts from blond to brown, sometimes flamed or marbled. Dining forks to sit beside your knives
These dining forks are designed to partner Laguiole en Aubrac steak knives: each handle on this page is also made as steak knives, from the same line and in the same material. That means you can start with knives and buy forks later, or the reverse, and the table will still match. Many wooden and horn handles in the range carry over to soup and dessert spoons too. Nothing stops a factory putting the Laguiole name on its cutlery, and plenty do. Laguiole en Aubrac makes these forks by hand in France.
Mixed sets or a single material
Two of the sets here mix materials deliberately. One combines six different French woods, and the other is a mix of six horns, from black through to a pale cream, so every fork in the set is different and each guest can pick out their own. For a more classic table, go for one material across all six. Stone-handled forks are offered in deep blues or vivid greens, polished to a shine. If you can't settle on one material, a mixed set means you don't have to.
Questions about table forks
Is a table fork the same as a dinner fork?
Yes, for most purposes. Table fork is the traditional British name for the large fork you use for the main course, and dinner fork is the more usual name in America. The dessert fork is the smaller one. Laguiole en Aubrac's table forks are full size, made by hand in France, and are sold in sixes.
Why is a fork called a fork?
The word comes from the Old English forca, which in turn came from the Latin furca, meaning a pitchfork. So the name started on the farm, long before anyone ate with one at the table. These forks are a long way from the hayfield: they're made by hand in France by Laguiole en Aubrac, with handles in wood, horn or stone.
Where should your knife and fork go when you've finished eating?
In Britain, line them up together, centred on the plate, handles towards you and the fork's tines facing up. Leaving them apart, angled on either side of the plate, shows you're still eating. With fork and steak knife in the same Laguiole en Aubrac handle, the pair looks right together on the plate.
Care instructions accompany every order. Hand wash the forks, dry each one at once, and don't let wooden or horn handles go in the dishwasher.
